Deferred medical for DUI

Okay so I posted a thread a while back about a DUI 11 years ago for being .03 BAC (But under 21 so was issued DUI Anyway) and another one 3 years ago.(Over the limit on this one) After 2 months of waiting I received a response from the FAA asking that I send all records of the events, a copy of my Driver's record, an evaluation from an alcohol specialist and a personal detailed statement about the events and my alcohol usage. I mailed everything out today EXACTLY as they asked. My Driving record is spotless, my evaluater painted me as a super great guy with no alcohol dependence. The court records show that no convictions took place and that I successfully completed a diversion program. Finally, my personal statement expressed my deep sorrow and shame for the events and that I've learned from my foolish mistakes.

So my question is....What do you think my chances are?? I have no finger nails left to chew off!! If I receive my Medical in the mail I'm going to do back flips, maybe even follow up with a moonwalk :-)
 
Good to hear. If it's dependent on the addiction specialist's report then that is good news. My report was very positive. Thanks Doc for the help. I just hope I don't have to wait another 2 months for a response. The waiting part is tough.

Knowing the FAA, they will probably ask you to get a HIMS evaluation done. They asked it of me. (Funny, I've never seen a thread on here about that....HIMS.) It is a reality; anyway.......

Back in May 2008, I was asked to get a forensic psychiatrist who has expertise in addictions and is an addictions specialist. So, I had a forensic psychiatrist, who is an addiction specialist and is familiar with FAA standards, write a glowing report on me stating that, "after an intensive evaluation for duty, it is in his opinion with reasonable medical certainty, that I, atpwannabe, am capable of performing the duties required by the 1st class medical. No evidence of personality disorder and no evidence of alcohol dependency.

I was later told that the forensic psychiatrist could have held a Nobel Peace Prize for specialized work in addictions, but, if he or she is not on "the approved list of psychologists and psychiatrists of the FAA", the Diagnosis & Opinion that the doctor may write concerning you doesn't amount to a hill of beans as far as the FAA is concerned.

That's just the way it is. You'll eventually be found eligible; but believe you me, you are gonna jump through some hoops.

There are currently 23 "approved" psychiatrists in the US. There are also 93 FAA apporved HIMS Independent Medical Sponsors who supervise the care of pilots who are in the HIMS program. Under 14 CFR Part 67.401, Special Issuance, can the SI medical certificate be issued for a 1st class medical?
