Declaration for Federal Employment

I received an email today from Charlene Sade, who is my HR representative. The email stated that she has prepared my TOL but needs me to fill out an attached form. My question is to those who have successfully passed the background check...how in depth do they go when contacting your former employers? Do they just verify that you worked there and if you're re-hireable or do they request your actual employment file?

What? Your TOL is ready before you've interviewed? I wonder if she has you confused with someone else.

Security clearances don't go well for people who try to hide parts of their past. It reflects poorly on your character and can result in denial. If I were you, I would disclose the information and explain your side of the story.

They don't get your actual employment file, but they do ask whether you are eligible for re-hire. They also ask for start and end dates of employment, questions about your character, and the like. It's not a big deal. My current employer (at the time they received the questionnaire) didn't even ask me about it. They simply filled it out and sent it back. When I put in my notice, however, they asked me a million questions about the position.

Edit: And spades, I think the OP is talking about of OF-306 or whatever it's called. You fill that out before you get your TOL. They don't start the security screening process until you have your TOL in hand.

Eligibility for re-hire can mean different things.....like, Bank of America won't re-hire me because I didn't give them a 2 week notice before I left.

I thought it was weird that my TOL was prepared before my interview too. And yes, I am talking about the OF-306...I seem to be the only one who got one so far or at least that's what I think...lol.

Do you know if that questionnaire has a question like, "Did the employee leave your company on his own terms?" or anything like that?

I've been through the complete hiring process and I've passed my 1 year of probation in the FAA and I can honestly say that I wouldn't sweat the background check unless you've been fired from previous jobs due to theft or sexual harassment- something serious around those lines. Personally, I had been fired twice from jobs, and one place in particular would probably not hire me back. That said, I made it through the entire security clearance without question, so I would rest easy- unless your previous employer was a crack dealer...lol.

I don't know if that's on there, but it wouldn't surprise me. Something makes me think that someone posted a thread on this site or the other site with an image of the form your employer gets. You might be able to find it if it hasn't been removed. I'd search for you but I have to go back to work soon.

Let Uncle Ross help you out with that:

Thank you all VERY much! All of this info has been really helpful. Does anyone know what the form looks like that they send to your references?
