On a serious note:
I'm 42 and a FO at Eagle. I have no - read: NO intentions of staying here.
If I stay until I upgrade, I'll be at least 46. My goal is to be at a major or large corporate flying gig by the age 45.
If the age 60 rule changes to 65, I can still put in 20 years at a major. If it stays the same, I still put in 15 and call it a career.
That said, that's my situation. I also know captains at Eagle making well into the $100Ks. Some of those guys work the schedule to it's enth degree by dropping trips then picking up another, THEN picking up OT to break that $100K mark.....but their base pay is something like $85K.
In short, they're busting their ASSES to make that money. Away from home ALL the time. But, that's what they want to do. Good on them.
I met a young UPS FO last week. Great guy. Had been a FO at Eagle about seven years ago, then 9/11 happened. He played his cards right - left Eagle, flew Metroliners, upgraded to captain, got a recommendation from a friends father and voila! He's now an FO on the A-300.
In sum (as I am rambling): Do what's best for Y.O.U. and don't worry about what other folks do. If they decide to stay in a situation you wouldn't dream of staying in - that's their decision. Do your own thing and let them worry about themselves.
