Re: Dear God, they\'re gonna let me fly passengers!

You know what's hilarious is that I've known JDflight since his young neophyte aviator days, but I still can't ride his cockpit jumpseat! Ha!

Re: Dear God, they\'re gonna let me fly passengers!

Congratulations and good luck!

Re: Dear God, they\'re gonna let me fly passengers!

If you actually end up physically riding in the jumpseat, the non-rev charges don't apply.

I believe JD is referring to the fact that as an AMR new-hire, you can not non-rev on any AMR carrier until you have 6 months with the company. Jumpseating is included in that. So you can't ride the jumpseat on your own airline until 6 months! Once you get your travel card, you can't list for the 'jumpseat' per se, like you do at DL. You get on the stand-by list, and if there's a seat available when the list gets to your name, you get a seat in the back. If there are no seats available, then you ride the jumpseat. If you ride in the back you pay a service charge (until 5 years, then coach is free). But if you end up riding the jumpseat, you are not charged.

The standby list goes by time of check in, but if it comes down to the jumpseat, then it goes by company senority. With any AA pilot having first dibs to an AA jumpseat, and any Eagle pilot having first dibs to an Eagle jumpseat.

Re: Dear God, they\'re gonna let me fly passengers!

Many congratulations to you JD! Eagle is a good company, and my friend there enjoys it, so don't be talked out of it because of some of the bad stuff people say. There's good and bad about every airline out there.

Allow me to make one suggestion ... if you have the option, go to the ERJ over anything else in the fleet. Several reasons ... first, it is the largest fleet, which means the best variety of bases, destinations, etc. You have five bases to choose from (BOS, LGA, ORD, DFW, LAX), far more than any other airplane. Plus, the airplane is really easy to learn and a lot of fun to fly!

I must be misunderstanding what you mean. You can non-rev on AE and AA by the end of the first week...as soon as you get your ID and your jetnet account is working. I've non-revved and ridden jumpseat Eagle CRJ's at least 4-5 times between DFW and CLE. I've also ridden (in the cabin) on Comair and Delta; and both up front (via the new CASS program) and in the back on Continental.

Only trouble I had- yesterday morning in fact- was a hiccup with CAL's computers (they said they've been having some trouble with the new system)...it said "j/s privelages denied," apparently its happened several times. Despite me telling him not to worry about it because I would've just caught a different flight, the captain was nice enough to leave the aircraft to go down to the CP's office (in CLE) and have my privelages verified so I could get on. Very cool of him indeed! He said he rides on Eagle all the time and wanted to do anything he could to make sure any Eagle guy gets on. I couldn't thank him enough!

Congrats again, jd! Hopefully your process will go a little smoother than mine has. The training department seems to be having a bit of trouble scheduling aircraft training. My first trip on IOE was supposed to be Sunday, now I might not even have my a/c checkride until next weekend. Yesterday both of us F/O's got sent home to sit around and collect per diem while we wait for them to schedule our checkrides.

Well, shows what I know! All the years I worked at Eagle & AA, as a new-hire you had to wait 6 months for your D2 card (travel privliges). I think right before I got furloughed they changed it so you don't even have a physical 'card' anymore. I didn't know you got to non-rev right away! That's a great change!

Re: Dear God, they\'re gonna let me fly passengers!

You still pay to ride in the back, though, right?

Re: Dear God, they\'re gonna let me fly passengers!

Affirmative, that much hasn't changed. You still can only jumpseat if the back is full, otherwise you must non-rev and pay the charges. All this straight from my buddy who flies at AE.

American Connection still has the six-month wait for privileges, and they are D6 when we do get them. This is a big reason why, even though the commute would be shorter, I'm not based in STL. I'll keep my excellent Delta, United, and US Airways benefits, thank you.

Yeah. Once you get all setup you'll be able to check the charges between any city. I flew back and forth from DFW to CLE for $8 or something like that. After five years, this (called D2) travel is free.

Well, they told me that the captains' review board denied my file. But rumor has it they're only running one more class, starting Monday, and then no more hiring. I told them I couldn't be available until the 18th. So, since they don't give you a reason for your demise, I choose to believe it's because there is no class for me. So yes, should I still want Eagle, I'd have to reapply in six months.
