Dear Colgan guys: Snapbacks

I'm confused... what does that have to do with snapbacks?
Because before the snapbacks this year I was only making a dollar an hour more. Mesaba contract is just gonna get better and better flying the same equipment as Colgan (Saab wise and 70 pax airplane wise). Good bargaining chip against George Casey.

Ah... you meant snapbacks at XJ. I was thinking you were talking about Colgan and hence the confusion.

Party on Wayne.

What are the Colgan guys trying to get for the Saab and Q in regards to pay? For the sake of all of us, i hope they get mucho dinero.

Don't expect ExpressJet payscales. It will be a while till any other regional picks up that type of payscale. I only say this because management currently has a bargaining chip called the U.S economy.

Our snapback payscale for our 50 seater is higher than ExpressJet. 2010 snap back year 18 is 100.88/hr vs 97/hr at ExpressJet and our min day is 4 hours which is a little more than ExpressJet. FYI for you. Our 2009 payscale almost mirrors ExpressJet's for 50 seaters.

That was the beauty of the Mesaba bankruptcy agreement. By the end of the snapbacks, it's actually a much better contract than the original agreement was. I can't remember for sure, but I think it might even end up being the industry-leading agreement. Captain Wychor and the rest of the MSA MEC did a superb job on handling the entire bankruptcy situation.

What do you mean by no per diem? Do they not get per diem at Colgan?

Unless your based out of IAH which has 4 day trips, or IAD which is down to 2 day trips, or HPN which now strangely has some random 2 day trips, you are only on day trips. The rest of the outstations are normally 2 round trips and your done. Which Im beginning to envy big time over this ######## we get out of IAD.

Some of our outstations have some sweet schedules. Mon - Fri 5am - 1130am.

Oh, and what is a snapback? Haha

And some of the outstations have horrendous schedules..... 0420 show.... 1 leg.... 4:44 sit.... 1 leg back and done for the day....8:03 away from base for 2:04 pay credit...
We don't need a better payscale than XJ although getting close would be super nice.... one of my major gripes although I shouldn't really have any being so new and all is the inefficient scheduling/time utilization. I want to work hard for three or four days and want to have three or four off...... if you can do it in PQI why can't the other stations have something similar?

With schedules like that, you guys really need a min day. Ours is 4 hours, and I think Mesaba's is the same. It would encourage the company to schedule more efficiently, and if they don't, at least you would get paid 4 hours for 2 hours of block.

Our 2010 payscales with the snapbacks are a few cents under what we would have been in 2008 under the original. In 2011 with the bonus snap back we will be ahead. You are correct Captain Wychor and the MSA MEC did a GREAT job and hopefully its an example that can be followed in theses dark days. Yes our contract was/will be again industry leading for CA pay and work rules. A lot of people look at APC and don't realize our pay and contract are in concessions(and most don't even know what that is) and they don't realize what a great contract Mesaba has. Thats why its a joke when I see the people on here from other airlines bashing Mesaba for getting more 900's. 4hr Min day > 2:1 duty rig.

I too would like a definition of "snapback". Can anyone give a simple summary that a lowly gear monkey can understand? :o

Snapbacks make your pay go back up after concessions based on some sort of metric. For instance, if the number of aircraft in the fleet increases, then pay might also increase. You can set up any sort of system when you negotiate the concessions package.
