Dealing with TSA 3 oz rule...

I believe that is a foolish thing to do. Sure, you got away with it, but that doesn't make it legal or smart. If they happen to catch it, and it appears you were trying to hide it, you could be in deep trouble.

Or worse, hair gel and liquid substances could be banned again. More than likely, they'd just evacuate the airport and detain you for questioning.....

If you're going to try to smuggle something on board, if you get busted, don't fuss. Just say, whoops, I forgot about that, and pitch it.

Or you may end up like that UCLA student.:insane:

that's what I was planning on doing. Either way a moot point since nothing happened due to the wonders of the oh so observant TSA

I'll repeat myself. If it appears you were attempting to conceal the contraband, it won't matter what you say.

Consider yourselves warned.

Some people got caught with stuff they weren't supposed to have in Vegas when I was coming home. They were asked to toss it or check it. They did, and the TSA let them go on their way.

Do you really think the TSA, which is already suffering from some serious negative publicity, wants to lock up Aunt Bessie for carrying on board some hairspray or toothpaste?

I'd just put the stuff in the ziplock bag and if they ask you to toss it, then do that. You can't be accused of concealing something if you stick it in the ziplock, can you?

It's kind of like taking Cuban cigars back from Canada. Not that I'd ever do that on purpose, but it's really easy to forget about them when you're packing for your trip home.

Wait, are you saying TheShortOne is an "Aunt Bessie"?!?! :insane:

I won't attempt to divine what the TSA thinks. It would require a virtual lobotomy to simulate the level of processes that count for the TSA as "thought." But even if I could tell you what "the TSA" thinks, it would likelt bear no resemblance to what the particular TSA agent with gloved hands digging through my bags might think. At that particular airport, on that particular day, with the particular bad night he may have had before, who only knows what he will think.

But who cares what they think, anyway? It's the rules that matter, right?

That sounds like excellent advice, and is quite contrary to what TheShortOne said she did, and what you condoned. You both used the word "smuggle," and she described how she hid it in a boot, and you suggested that she feign ignorance and innocence if caught.

Let's forget that advice, shall we, and stick with what you just said. Stick it in the plastic bag, just as they instruct.
