Deadheading...would you take the jumpseat?

Steve, until you've seen in person, you can't possibly imagine. One of our reps (who was previously very pro-SWA) had to actually walk out of the Party Rally because he was so weirded out by it. It's just....strange.

Nah, nobody's that bad. If I'm still working here next spring, I'll have to take some video for you of the "Message to the Field," or as I call it, the Party Rally. Such mindless adoration of a corporation for no justifiable reason I have never witnessed before in my life, and I hope never to again. It's just downright scary. They've got the scientologists beat in the brainwashing department.

Hopefully you WON'T be here next spring. All you do is complain, complained at pinnacle, complained at AirTran, and hopefully won't ever have the chance to complain at Swa. Just get out, you must be miserable. Swa is a great airline and place to work at. It's not perfect, by any means but as far as working for a company in this junky industry it's not too bad of a way to make some money to be able to enjoy your life outside of the career.

I agree. SWA is a good flying job. I ride up front on them all the time and they seem like a pretty happy and content bunch. As much as pilots can be, I'd say. They work hard (too hard for me) but they enjoy the work. You can call it Kool Aid or whatever but if some of these airlines started treating employees with more respect and value it would do wonders for QOL. Can you imagine that amount of fuel happy pilots could save and still be safe?

We can work hard, it's nice to get the flying in at work rather than sit around. I think that helps keep the company profitable, plus alot of pilots at Swa are greedy and pick up extra work. Myself included sometimes. Although next month I have two weeks of vacation and was able to translate that into 0 day of work, so we do take breaks sometimes! A little respect in your employees and fellow coworkers goes a long way.

I gotta agree with KellWolf on this one. I drive 2 hrs to JAX so I don't have to commute on Delta or USAir out of Savannah. I want to watch TV, and I don't want to worry about oversold flights.

The level of service is not the same. Maybe we've all been beaten down for so long that the little things look really huge, but I think there's no comparison. I commuted on Delta for 8 years, so it's not like I'm inexperienced with the product.

Like Walmart? ;)

I started keeping track just for the hell of it. Everyone that was booked on my last 4 flight showed up. 5 if you count my commute home that was booked to 150/150. Not every flight was full, but pretty darn close.

As for what happens at the Message to the Field, I don't work there anymore, so I guess they can't fire me for saying it. It's basically a company pep rally, IMHO, no different than what happens at a lot of companies that follow a "team building" model. We've got something similar here, we just call it the "State of the Airline." It's a big "go us" with accomplishments and what's on the horizon. There's a bit of smoke tossed in to try to get people jazzed about being a the company again. I wouldn't consider it "cultish" at all. If I had been part of a merger that was done at gun point and didn't come out on the other end very well, I might see it differently, though....

What I find funny is the pilot is wearing a hat and blazer. I have NEVER seen a SWA Pilot wear both at the same time.......
