It's still sporty in a plane with 130ish ref speeds, short wings, no leading edge devices, and puny tires and brakes. Throw in the close in base to final turn...
 
When I talked to the old timers in SJU, they said before the runway was expanded landing the ATR would get sporty.
 
I can imagine. What was it, 3500'?

I read an article in a local rag while we down there for two weeks, and it was talking about the infancy of the airport. A 1500' swath cut out of the foliage and a Cessna 170 running bananas or something to St Croix.
