DCA Houston

Looks like San Jacinto College in Houston with DCA Training for the A.A.S degree is what I will be working towards here at the end of the year. My plan so far is attend San Jacinto College and get the A.A.S in Pilot Dev. and transfer to University of Houston or University of Texas to work on a degree in Finance or Business. Anyone attend San Jacinto College - Pilot Dev. or know anything about it? (besides it being expensive flying with DCA)

I heard DCA was out at San Jac and that Flying Tigers had won the contract?

Either way, there a ton of good FBO's in Houston to train at for 1/2 the cost of DCA. Go to San Jac/UH Clear Lake and train at an FBO would be my advice.

oh Sorry guess I should have mentioned this. I am a veteran and I qualify for the post 9/11 GI bill and it will only pay for flight training when it is apart of a degree program. I will not have any loans or any debt... in fact the VA is paying my a housing allowance while attend San Jacinto College. Dont get me wrong my first choice in FBO is www.unitedflight.com its a good school... the kind of school where people come just to hang out and talk to about aviation. But I have not choice in the matter theres no other schools in Houston that offer degree programs in aviation that allow my to fly.

Just curious how you heard about United Flight. I'm an instructor there, just wondering if someone you knew trained there.

Good luck on the training, I wish I would have waited and used my post 9/11 for flight training. Can't beat full tuition paid and the housing allowance.

United flight system is down the road from where I grew up. I lived in Tomball and hooks airport is where I would go as a kid just to hang out. I had a few friends do their training there. In fact the whole reason I joined the army is to get the montgomery gi bill to help pay for training (united flight got me hooked). I got lucky when they came out with the post 9/11 GI bill. The main issue I have with Delta Connection Academy is I will be conducting training with CFI's whos sole purpose in life is to gain hrs to get hired on to the regionals.

I know all of the instructors over @ DCA Houston and they're all good folks and good pilots. The following are purely my opinion:

PROs:
  • You will be trained very well and walk away with a slew of information.
  • The Cirrus fleet is quite nice!
  • The students have created a very cool environment where one feels welcomed very quickly. They love to help each other study and get together quite often to do so.

CONs:
  • Price!
  • I very much respect all of the professors at San Jac, but the DCA 141 course and San Jac's courses do not ALWAYS work hand in hand.
  • Price!

Shoot me a PM and I can give you some more information. Good luck with your career!

Price is no concern of mine... Post 9/11 GI Bill has me covered if my only concern is DCA and San Jacinto's conflictions. Housing allowance is 1500 a month paid and I can easily find something to live in well below that amount. I just have to put up with 6 months of Colorado before I can make it to Houston.

Are you stationed at Ft. Carson? I spent about 4 years there myself, not a bad place to be.

Let us know when you make it down to Houston, we'll get a M & G together.

Yes I am stationed in Ft Carson been here since Feb of 07 did a year in Iraq 08 to 09 and I get out this october. Ft Carson is nice and a nice area but nothing beats home. M & G sounds good i do plan on visiting United Flight Sys. when I get back.

Stop by classroom #5 and say hi. Maybe we can grab lunch at the Aviator's Grill :)
