He's kind of a "Jack*ss-esque/Howard Stern" type of guy. I'm thinking it was just a skit for this video... There is an awful lot of instructing going on when they are coming in to land too.

He's kind of a "Jack*ss-esque/Howard Stern" type of guy. If you look at the landing close enough there are 4 people in the cockpit. This Caneman dude is filming from the jumpseat, there is a real captain flying the FO and the FE. It was just a skit for this video...

I believe his intentions are good. While it is argueable that his videoing in the cockpit is not a good idea, he is apparently interested in showing the public the not-so-glamorous side of professional flying, specifically a small freight company flying very old airplanes to South America.

We also don't know his company's rules regarding these types of things, and so I guess he's just doing it at his own risk. He's already on the internet, and putting a video online is certainly something he knows will be viewed.
 
No, we can buy alcohol and bring it back. We obviously are not allowed to consume alchohol on duty or 8 hours prior to duty.

Yea, look up his name. He's typed in the DC-8, E-110 and something else I can't remember. ATP, FE & Flight instructor certificates. I really hope he doesn't mix his humor and his flying too much.

Remember even our very own Mike Orenstein is a performing standup comic! :)

Plus, one of my pals was in a pretty prominent local rock band in the northwest and is a 737 FO. A couple of the guys got married, cranked out some kids and lost the thirst for the 'rock and roll lifestyle'.

Could be worse...there was the two male SWA Captain and FO that got totally nude in the cockpit at cruise.

Mike Oreinstein is the guy who wrote the perspectives article under his other name of "Mike Orensteen" but I don't remember what his screen name is.

He was wjc_pilot for a while but he changed that I think.

I personally did not think his antics were too bad - I have sat jumpseat, was in the OR last night observing surgery - these environments which people expect to be ultra professional, do work as well in a casual laid back way too.
 
Couple things:

I've gotten glideslope warnings a few times when flying visual or circling approaches. Not because we were below the glideslope for the runway of intended landing, but because we had dialed up a ILS for another runway which was still receiving. I actually had this happen at about 200 feet when circling in EWR last week. The caution wasn't for our runway.

The sink rate, I think that's iffy. Don't know the tolerances for the DC-8, but I hold the opinion that you should never get a GPWS warning on an arrival unless surrounding terrain gives erroneous readings (Tecigulapa (sp), Honduras, or Knoxville, KY, others).

I'm all about enjoying work and having fun, but keep it professional. There is a difference between having fun and going overboard. It's a fine line. But it is very possible to have a lot of fun at this job while maintaining a professional demenor and having a lot of good times!
