DC-9 and gravel

One of the local freight carriers bought three DC-9s and it got me wondering if there are gravel kits for it? It seems like the engines might be high enough that you don't have to worry about it. But flying rocks from the gear might be something to worry about.

I'm working at a place across the field from those DC-9's and my CP and one of the other pilots happen to be retired -9 pilots. They were talking about it and apparently they have kits for it, apparently with them it's not a huge deal. One of them flew them in the Air Force and said he took them into some pretty rough fields in Africa without problems.

The 737-200 had a gravel kit with significant performance penalties. I have not seen any DC-9s with gravel kits also many if not most have a spray bar on the nose gear.

Yeah. I am pretty familiar with the 737-200 gravel kit. They are fairly common here.
