DC 13.4 Vs. DC 13X ANR

OK guys-

I'm trying to decide between the two, and have a question..

OK.. Here's the question..

The 13.4's are rated at a Passive Noise Reduction of 23db..

Whereas the 13X's are rated at a Passive Noise Reduction of 23db and an Active Noise Reduction of 20 db... So, is it safe to conclude that the 13X's will offer a "total" of 43db's over the 23db's of the 13.4's??

No, the 13X just adds the 20dB of ANR to the baseline of 23dB. The 13.4 and 13X are essentially the same headset, but the 13X adds ANR. Turn off the ANR, and you have a pair of 13.4s.
 
I have a 13X and have used a 13.4 in the past. I do not know the total db reduction, but my 13X is much quieter than the 13.4. I am very happy with it.
 
I own both sets. Like the above poster said the ANR version is pretty much a set of 13.4's, though they do have a few other features like volume knobs on both sides and a nicer mic boom. Both are great headsets, but without question the ANR set is much quieter. Test them both out if you can (along with other brands).
 
I upgraded my 13.4s with an aftermarket kit and I like them better than the 13Xs that I've borrowed in the past. Unfortunately, the kit was a gift and I don't recall where it was purchased. I've opened up the box, but there is no name. Knowing my dad, it was probably Aircraft Spruce or Oregon Aero where he purchased it.
 
What jdflight failed to mention is that the ANR add-on to his 13.4's broke....tell the whole story bub.

Also don't forget, adding that to the 13.4 will void one of the best warranties on any product I have ever seen.
 
Looks like I can't lose with the 13X, well my wallet can.. but what's $500 bucks over 5 years or so..
 
And I subsequently got it fixed good as new. It was just a connection that broke. As for the warranty, I can pretty much guarantee that if the headband or mic boom or anything not having to do with the noise reduction aspect broke, DC would still fix it no question. If the noise reduction breaks, I can just find out who the manufacturer is and have them fix it. This time, I happened to take it to an electronics shop because it was just the connector.
 
Definitely go for the ANR.

And the aftermarket ANR kits are from www.headsetsinc.com. A friend of mine did his own upgrade to his Peltors, says he couldn't tell the diff between them and the Bose, 'cept his walled was a lot fatter.
 
Looks like the price of the aftermarket ANR's versus the price of a factory warrantied DC 13X puts the warrantied 13x's on the list..
