David Clark Headset (metal-->flex boom)

I have a David Clark headset with a metal boom. Great headset, i've used it over the years and its been a good one. One thing, I would like to have the flex mic boom. Has anyone replaced the boom? Or should l just make the DC a backup and fork out the money for a new headset.
 
just email DC, not sure about model compatibility but they can probably tell you if it`s possible and how much it will cost.

But it still clamps the crap out of your head.
 
Roger Roger : I looked at the ANR kit, first i had ever heard of it... But I didnt see a Mic Conversion Kit. The headset works fine, its only the Mic Boom I have issues with.

swisspilot : Thanks, i should have thought of that lol. I emailed DC about it last week after reading over the posts. They said there was no flex mic boom conversion for my headset, that I had to buy a new headset (figured that was the answer they would say) ... Just sucks, it is a really good headset and is comfortable and works, i just simply want a different boom. Seems like a simple fix. oh well, i'll keep fighting it until i save up enough money for a new headset.

Take your headset to an Avionics shop they may be able to make the flex boom work on your headset. Do you have a buddy that can lend you one with the flex boom? so that you can show the avionics guy what you want to be done. DC headsets are very simple, I`m sure you can adapt it.
 
Just buy the DC headset you want off a bro or eBay. Sell this one to a student....or keep it as a spare for when you pile the family or a bunch of friends into an aerospace vehicle.

Didn't they offer to upgrade you to a rebuilt later model? That's what they did with an old pair of DC's I had where the boom mike was falling off. My headset was no longer being made, so they charged me a not-to-bad fee to replace it with a factor rebuilt H10-13.4.
 
I used to be in the "ANR is a high priced gimmic" camp...then I got one and changed my tune and I'm gladly eating my own words, now I recommend it to anyone who can afford more than a $120 ASA headset.

If you're on a budget and dont want to drop $1200 on a new Bose/LS, check out the Pilot USA 1779, nice affordable and comfortable ANR headset with 50 hour rechargeable batteries built in and soft flexible plastic frame (wont scratch windscreens). I really like mine. Light clamping force, in fact I emailed them and said I'd like a little more clamping force because when I turn my head a lot it can cause the ear seal to leak some noise. They said "no problem, send it in and we'll add a metal inner headband that will make the clamping force about 1/2-way between the current light force and a typical passive headset's clamping force"...oh and they offered to do it for free!
