Dating as a Dispatcher

There is a old sayings....don't go looking for love, let love find you and don't settle because you want to, settle because you are in love.

I didn't get married until later in life, most of my friends got married in their 20's

It really depends what you are looking for and who finds you. I was fresh out of dispatch school and moved to a new city flat broke working at a regional for pennies. I met a girl shortly after moving there. To save both of us the time of disappointment later the first thing i told her was about my job (she didn't know much about airline work) and that as soon as a better job came along I would be moving. To my surprise it didn't scare her off. We eventually got married and then the call came for the better job. It was time for her to leave her family and only home she had ever known. Again to my surprise she didn't hesitate. It does come with sacrifices though. Sleep being the biggest I think and not always being able to go do fun things on the weekend together. However on the flipside it's amazing the deals you can find during the week. 2 for one movies on Tuesdays if you have att..every penny counts at a regional. As some have said if it may be wise to keep it no strings attached or you might be waiting awhile to find someone to make the sacrifices with you. The best advice I can give is be honest and up front from the very beginning.

Obviously this isn't a forum for dating advice, but I am curious as to how fellow dispatchers have dealt with dating or their relationships. I have my certificate and I've started applying to regionals. I know I'll have to move, maybe multiple times before I settle down at a major carrier. How have other people dealt with moving multiple times while successfully balancing dating?

Just like you set a goal for your dispatch career; i.e. working for a major airline, you also have to establish a goal for dating. The goal you set for will determine how you approach it. So what’s your goal for dating?

Depending on the airport, approaches can be fighter jet fast or hang glider slow....

However, one thing is for sure, if the aircraft comes in too low on the glide slope, you will crash and burn. The airport will no longer be open.
