TSA is all just a security theater. DTW on a domestic flight to EWR, took my wife's IPod because it wasn't charged and she couldn't turn it on to show it worked. The charger was in the checked bag. They said they couldn't allow it and would have to confiscate it. She asked what would happen and asked for a manager to come out. The manager said it would be sent to Washington DC so they could check it for explosives. My wife asked for her name and address to be put on the baggie they had put the iPod in. They said no. She said, what if there is something bad in there, how would you prosecute me if you don't know who the iPod belongs to? Dumb stares. In the end, her choice was to surrender it, go out and check it in a bag, or give it to someone else to take back home in DTW. Being alone at the time with a young child, and no one to go back out to, she ended up surrendering it.

It's all BS. Bet our iPod is currently in the home of some Detroit ghetto. (No offense). It sure as hell didn't go to D.C. If you're gonna say it's gonna be tested for explosives, it better have a owners name to go after in case they do find something bad. But they don't. It's stupid crap, just like taking all the "dangerous" liquids passengers bring, only to throw it ina garbage bin 3 feet away from them in the security checkpoint.

The pat downs, the gropings, the grandmas and kids felt up, it's all a security theater so the average John/Jane Doe feels some semblance of "being safe."

It's not even so we'll feel safe. It's to condition us.
 
I had TSA find s razor blade in my wallet once. Funny thing is, I hadn't handled one for the 5 preceding months, when I was removing a window decal. It must have gotten in there somehow.

While I thought it impressive they found it, the scary thought was, no one else found it every time I went through in the months previous. That's close to 50 times it was missed.
 
I had a friend fly SFO-CUN-SFO last week and only when he got home did he realize he had a 9" hunting knife in his bag in a hidden pocket from a camping trip last year. Go TSA!

Hell, we're way past the post 9-11 hysteria, and they still swab my hands for explosives, through KCM, in uniform.
