DAL/NWA: It's Official

It will be Continental and Air Lingus.

All cockpits will be remaned "box office."

If that wasn't so funny I'd moderate the heck out of you.

It would be great to hear a NWA pilots thoughts on this matter. I wonder what they are thinking now - DAL pilots made their own deal, the merger went through...seems the NWA guys are kind of left sitting on their thumbs...all the way up to the elbow.

There's a couple on another forum that is NOT APC or FI, that well. . .are a bit indifferent right now. One of them knows that it'll be best if things are kept civil.

Wow. I hope all of us at the Regionals are comfortable...the ride to the top just got longer.

On a brighter note, this merging stuff may be good for the health of the industry and our pay. That is if they start raising fares like they say.

... or it could mean more blood on the floor while formerly unassociated regionals wind up doing gladiator-style battles for contracts with mega majors.

There will be an unspecified number of job cuts or transfers through the consolidation of overlapping corporate and administrative functions, Delta said. The two airlines employ more than 80,000 people combined. The company expects no involuntary furloughs of front-line employees and said the existing pension plans for both companies’ employees will be protected.

Delta doesn’t plan to close any of the two airlines’ hubs.

Delta also said that it has agreed with its pilot leadership to extend its existing collective bargaining agreement through the end of 2012. The agreement, which is subject to pilot ratification, will allow the combined company to realize the revenue synergies of the transaction, Delta said. It also provides the Delta pilots a 3.5 percent equity stake in the new company and other enhancements to their current contract.

The agreement does not cover Northwest pilots.

Delta said it will use its best efforts to reach a combined Delta-Northwest pilot agreement, including resolution of pilot seniority integration, prior to the closing of the merger.

U.S.-based non-pilot employees of both companies will get a 4 percent equity stake in the new airline when the deal closes, Delta said.

Northwest pilots and the union representing most of Northwest’s ground workers immediately announced they would fight the combination.

Dave Stevens, chairman of the Northwest branch of the Air Line Pilots Association, said in a prepared statement, “The risk to Northwest Airlines and to the Northwest pilot group from letting this merger proceed, as it is now structured, is simply too great.”

Hit the nail on the head, folks!

Like I tell all my pax, "Sit down, buckle up, and HOLD ON!" :nana2:

Has anybody looked at the DCI/NWAirlink routes and counted how many locations are served by only those two? Serious question. I just wonder how many RJ's are going to be "surplus," especially the 50 seaters.

Lurkers?

Don't you mean Stalkers?
Naw...this site has a history of having some fantastic folks who've "lurked" for (literally) years before joining in.

Now... back to the topic: DAL/NWA.... It's going to get (hell, it already IS) interesting!!

God Speed to everyone involved!

I received a newsletter from the Riddle career center. One of the bullets states: United Airlines will be on campus on the 24th and 25th of April to discuss hiring procedures, what it takes to break into the Legacy Carriers, and also discuss future internships.

So if any of you are curious on what it takes to break into the legacy carriers here’s your chance.;)

Who knows. Although, I know with Pinnacle, our 50 seaters are full about 90% of the time, even with the overlap. If ASA/Comair/Mesaba/Compass/Mesa/Chautauqua says the same, you might be seeing less of a cut than everyone thinks. Sure, we'll see reductions. And some here are even saying we might see more -900s out of the deal to consolidate some seats. Truthful answer is no one knows what's going to happen right now. I doubt if Delta management even knows at this point.

This is not going to be good for anyone but the CEO's and investment bankers. They are going to get richer, while employees are on the street, and customers are pissed off with the continuing decline in customer service.

:yeahthat:

And I don't want to hear any crap about synergies and eliminating redundancies. What that means is layoffs and an inability to concentrate on the things that matter because people are worried about losing their jobs.

Are they going to have to paint all NWA's planes into DL colors? It would be strange to see an A320 with the widget.

anet moment over. :)
