Most of the piston aircraft I have flown have had inaccurate gauges. The JPI450 is around $550 on Aircraft Spruce or I'm sure you could find a refurbished one for less.
 
The hangar at MQY. There was nothing better than having Chris and his guys load the plane while you did flight planning and W&B in the office with a bunch of old Natty Light tall boys in the garbage can.

Right now I go off time alone as the fuel gauges are a joke. They read full at full and empty at empty, but sometimes after only 1/2 hour one will read 1/4 tank then after 2 hours it'll be 3/4 tank.
The very first thing I did was buy a fuel totalizer. Once set up, it's very accurate.

Indeed. It almost made up for the complete opposite experience you get when going over to the Brown Mothership from there at 1AM
