Did a preflight like all good pilots do...
The sump kept dripping, so I took a closer look. Short story long, the gasket in the sump-bolt was keeping the valve open.
I ended up draining 16 gallons (thankfully a friend was with me to help out). Found a replacement sump-bolt, only to discover the threads are striped in the tank hose/port.
I'm taking it in tomorrow to have a fuel flow meter installed, so I was planning on 'downing' her. But,it's funny how you catch things..

shoot, you can even put it together...just gotta find somebody to sign off that they supervised you.Tear apart, yes. Put back together, no.
Usually when I work on a car, it involves lots of mechanics words, big hammers, and cheater bars. And multiple trips to the parts store for stuff I didn't realize I would need. I think my record is 3 parts store runs for one project.Sounds like any time I do any work on my car. I've been trying to track down a "hot" smell after I drive it hard. Today I went out to trouble shoot, but it didn't want to start. I saw lots of corrosion on the battery terminals, remove the negative one no problem. Go to loosen the bolt on the positive one and half of the damn lead snaps off.
Good luck.
I have a number of friends who are A&P's in class with me. A case of beer, and a plane ride, they'll help and supervise.shoot, you can even put it together...just gotta find somebody to sign off that they supervised you.
Also, drill, tap, helicoil. Bam.

Not too shabby! Being a CASA driver the only numbers there that makes me really nervous are the ones gusting over 40.@Nark this was today's SGY weather...I did 3 canal round trips.

It was a gorgeous day. Which I love because when the weather is crap doing that Golovin-Elim run isnt much fun. We go into Elim two or three times a week. We do Nome-White Mountain-Golovin-Elim-Unalakleet then run a couple runs there, then go to St. Marys to do a couple runs, then Emmonak to do a couple runs. Those turn into very long days. There really isnt much ice out there right now, but I suspect it will show up soon. Saw a boat out in front of Nome the other day, and the water between Gambell and Savoonga is wide open. Pretty crazy.Hey @ASpilot2be, Thanks!! I can see my old house and almost see my old fishing hole! Heckuva nice day... you can see all the way to Koyuk. Ice looks a bit weak for December.
Did you guys land there, or were you just flying past? Any updates for us on the St. Mary's situation?

I haven't heard of that. Runway 1 has a nice gps approach with vertical guidance. 19 gets a little more interesting.I recall quite a few "Eskimo NDB" flights into Elim back in the day. Still like that?
