How do you like it? I am a little weary of third party glass. I had a basic Quantarray (made by Sigma for Ritz Camera) 70-300 f/4.5 that I thought was reasonably well constructed but lacked image stabilization, so I bought the Sigma IS version and I am not happy. Should have splurged for the Canon. Wish I had money for L lenses. I need a wide angle lens widest I own now is 28-135. (Not including the junk 18-50 lens that came with my XTi).
I've got the same lens (Tamaron 17-50 f/2.8) and I love it. Best lens I've bought so far in my opinion. Well worth it!

I really like it. All the reviews I read before buying it said it was L quality. It is slow to focus compared to my 70-200 F/4L, but that's to be expected I guess. It's not really a lens I use for high speed stuff anyways. It pretty much lives on my camera.

Save money for L lens or rent a plane and go flying? flying wins every time.

Agreed. It's replaced the 50 1.8 I had, and I rarely use the 28-135 anymore. Next investment is the 70-200 F/4 L. I was hoping to pick one up recently (i.e. last week) when Canon had it's refurb sale but it was already gone! If you're a "student" too you can save an extra 50 bucks or something like that too!
