Is that your bird? GII-TT is quite rare. And what's it got dangling between its legs?

Not ours... being used by the University of Alaska Fairbanks Geophysical Institute for mapping of the state. The three fins on the belly and the wing tips are all part of a powerful ground mapping radar system.

Funny thing about 2's with tip tanks, the drag/weight from those tanks pretty much negate any increases in range. A real G-IIB will outperform any modified straight G-II, G-III wing on a short fuselage with low bypass engines=fun for pilots.
