What's up with the speedbrakes on the CRJ700/900? Damn things are about 1" tall and look completely out of place on the wing. Do they actually do anything? :)

lol..if i stuck my hand out we would slow down much faster. I was on a 757 2 days ago pulling up to the gate while a CRJ was blocking the gate. The captain comes on the speaker phone and says "sorry for the delay, we have a barbie jet blocking our way who has no clue what he is doing".......

They only use 2 panels of the spoiler system. They don't do much else than make noise on the 200 but on the 700 they will normally get the airplane slowed down a bit.

Don't ask how but I've seen 8000fpm down with the power at idle and the boards out.

Bah. The Encore will do 13,000+ down with that. 360 to on the ground in 4 minutes, that was fun :)

That's pretty damn good (especially the 13,000, jeez). Best I ever see is about 5000fpm, and that's only temporarily after I run the speed intervene up. DIVE, DIVE! :)
