Also the tent was a separate shot that I merged in as the lights were way too bright to capture the stars. Took one exposure with the LEDs from the tent off, then another so I could merge them in post.

Wow. I have so many wonderful memories from there. Great times with great friends and great planes. Can't believe in all the decades and all the history of Kai-Tak that there is nothing left but rubble, weeds, dust and wind. Sigh.[/QUOTE,]

Sucks growing old as dust and wind, eh?

Not nearly as much as being a worthless troll.

Alright you restroom biscuit,,, jokes are obvious jokes but for some who lack social skills can't comprehend the social skill level required to grasp a joke when there is one. I see a sad sad old man behind your mask and I truly feel sorry for you sir life alot

That's awesome you got to fly in there though. The new airport is very nice, but not historically awesome.

Still on the bucket list...

I'm super late in checking this thread and replying...still on my bucket list too for me (I actually have a list of museums to visit in various states). Especially to see the plane again that got me into aviation, C-141 Starlifter!

First time in Salt Lake and just about everyone I talk to says I have to try it.

I'm afraid so. It looks a little better from far away. Glad I got up there before all of it is gone.

What camera are you using now?

I walked down to the site of the old airport and it's not completely dust. There are a few ancient buildings that house the Hong Kong Aero Club which seems to be retaining some of the history of the site:

But also at the end of the old runway is a park with a few monuments commemorating the airport.

So the history is being preserved, fortunately.

I picked up a refurbished Canon SL1. I really thought about going mirrorless, but those things are expensive. Plus with this I don't need new lenses and accessories.

Hey man, if you can afford the space in your luggage, more power to you. Those were some nice photos. I'm in a constant state of indecision about what I want to do with photography. For the time being, i'm going to focus on the Sony mirrorless because it's what I have and what I can afford. But I know that I'm missing out on some level of capability... Not that I could necessarily exploit it with my talent.

Actually the SL1 was Canons first answer to the mirrorless cameras and is pretty small. For now I have a fixed 50mm lens on there that with the crop factor is just a little too much zoom. But if I can find a shorter fixed lens like that it's actually not much bigger than a lot of the mirrorless stuff I looked at, and way way cheaper.

I really wish I could have gotten to visit kai-tak I've always loved the videos and pictures of that airport growing up, one day i hope I can make it out there just for a visit anyways since I've only been here in North America :/ Awesome pictures guys, love this thread.
