daily pic

Trying not to further muddy Daily Pics. Just out of curiosity what is the 5 point going to do for you at FL380?

Sorry about the muddy waters. Looking good after 12 of 14 hours in cruise:

Flying these airplanes is relatively high risk, I don't understand why you would argue against having shoulder harness. If the maintenance team can keep a 70 year old airplane airworthy, they can find a way to safely anchor shoulder harnesses. When I was around the airshow circuit and flying vintage airplanes mitigating risks was crucial. If I asked why we didn't have shoulder harnesses the answer would not have been shoulder shrug, it would have been a lets find a way get them installed during the off season. I won't argue with you about it any more, I just don't understand it.

Alex.

Not arguing against it Alex, a modern harness system would be great, however just having one installed anywhere for piece of mind does nothing for me. They need to be functional and safe. Next time you see Harrison Ford, ask him how the shoulder harnesses worked in the PT-19 when he crashed. I will save you the trouble, the mounting hardware pulled through the sheet metal and he smacked his head against the panel. We have done lots of things to modernize these airplanes to try and make them safer, but these are warplanes made at a time where comfort and safety were not necessarily on the forefront of the manufacturer. Retracting shoulder harnesses are needed because you cannot reach anything without leaning forward a significant amount.

Having seen harnesses rip out, and having done it myself, I have no interest in smoking mirrors.

There are only 2 flying in the world, we may have them but they are disconnected from their attach points. They weren't factory, and we're probably just bolted to the aft cockpit bulkhead. They would pull right through with minor force.

Don't let them hear you saying that or they may not let you fly it anymore!

The other one has shoulder harnesses that are anchored into the seat frames for the record.

How do you like that watch? Do you find the temp readout to be fairly accurate? Battery life?
Thanks.

i love it. the watch itself doesn't read temp, it has to have a thing the same size as a garmin footpod that connects to it and is quite accurate. the battery life is good, i charge it overnight once or twice a week on average. weeks with a lot of running i sometimes have to charge it a 3rd time as obviously gps tracking on it will use up the battery quicker.

It was too cheap. They needed something big n sexy to spend money on.

And, yes, I just compared the "modern" (they originally flew in the 1970's) Army Aviation and the acquisition process to Fat Bastard.
