daily pic

Took a 172 out for a $100 hamburger at Cambridge MD and enjoyed the day.

Duuuuuude. If you come up to SZP hit me up. We've only had a hangar there for thirty years’ish.

A friend from MI was in town and suggested we meet there for lunch. Really really cool airport you have. If there's something going on, let me know, worth the drive!

The airport has an open house every first Sunday of the month. During the summer months (if the weather is good) there's usually a pretty good turn out. People open their hangars and push out their airplanes. People will fly in, and there's always a car club or two on display. They'll definitely be stuff to shoot. Are you LA/SoCal based now?

Here's some that I took during my end of march/beginning of april vacay. First up, a couple from KAUS. They were running only 35L that day and while I saw a spot on Google Earth that could hold promise in the form of a park right off the west side of the 35L centerline, right across the road, I didn't really think I had time to get there before the 787 arrived, so I went with the sure thing. IMO the results aren't for naught.

The next couple of pics are from Old Davidsonville state park. The park is built around one of the oldest settlements in Arkansas, the town was settled in 1815 and had the first Courthouse and Land Office in the state. It is in a spot along the Black River and at the time was an important port in northeast Arkansas. A few years after the town was formed, the main trail between St. Louis and Texas changed routes to higher ground and the town was abandoned by 1830.

The first picture is of the Phillips/Reeves cemetery. A couple of headstones here mark the graves of some Revolutionary war veterans.

The next is just a picture along one of the hiking trails in the park.

The next five shots are from Hall's Creek Canyon, just outside Ravenden Springs, Arkansas. There are five springs that feed into Hall's Creek, and each of them were known for healing properties and named as such. In the early to mid 1800s, Ravenden Springs was one of the largest resort towns in the state with many spas and hotels, but by the turn of the 19th century the town was in decline. My grandpa was a preacher at the local baptist church for many years, and his parsonage was right above the spring so we'd go down alot and fish for crawdad and swim in the cool water. You can actually get drinking water out of Stomach Spring, they have a water spigot drilled into a concrete wall in the hillside with easy access. That part was upstream of where I took these pics. Also, the first picture shows School Cave, so named because that was the location of the first school in Arkansas, where a methodist preacher started teaching Math, History, Language, and whatever else they taught back in those days.

The last two are from my family's property near Ravenden Springs. First pic is McAfee Creek, a more or less seasonal stream that as of this picture was carrying the water they got during the rainy season. Second picture is of the main barn on the property.

What? No BBQ?

There's the airport cafe that reopened about 8 months or so ago. It's open for breakfast/lunch. I think they had a bbq special during the end of the summer last year. Not sure if they'll do any thing special for the first Sunday or not.

About 10 years ago, the Catalina airport was doing monthly cookouts during the summer. As I recall, there was cover charge on top of the usual landing fee, but the food was great and there was usually a band playing. All of that on top of the amazing view from the airport restaurant there. Awesome times. I need to find out that's still a thing they do.
