@GX amazing amazing photos!

How did ya get such amazing close ups if ya don't mind me asking?

The night shot is spectacular.

Thanks! I shot that with a Nikon D3s w a 70-200 f2.8 attached. I was literally on the edge of the runway about a foot off of the runway edge line. I shoot until they go by me, and that's what I usually end up with.

The "night" shot isn't actually a night shot. I shot that at 4:55pm. The clouds were broken and heavy. The sun peered out at the right moment, just as he rolled onto final, leaving the runway lit, and the mountains still shadowed. I'm glad that you like my shots.

Here's a shot where you can see what the clouds were like...It's the last shot from the sequence.

Here's us low and slow over Pasadena area

I really look forward to looking at all these pictures. I can't save fast enough to switch careers, ha-ha. I am trying to do it debt free by saving cash for my ratings, but that is clearly going to take a good deal of time. I keep pushing through because aviation is what I want and need to do with my life. With that said, this thread and all these amazing pictures is one thing that keeps my eye on the prize. So, keep posting pictures ;) :).

So.... how do you get right to the edge of the runway? Need special permission or something or did you just walk over there?

It depends on the field. Small municipal airports, I usually chat the people up, and let them know what I'm up to, or I'll just walk out. Big fields I'll go to Ops and see if someone will take me out with them as they make the rounds. If they ask where I want to go, I'll make a request, and I respect any of their requests, but otherwise I just shoot what they give me. City airports I'll usually meander over to hangers closest to the runway or near the taxiways and shoot from there if the light is favorable. It all depends on if the non-movement areas are connected, or if I can get vehicle access to where I want to be.

I'm always professional, credible, and approachable. The drill is almost always the same, they ask who I am, what I'm doing, etc. I just start talking and pull badges or certs until they go away. I carry business cards, media badges from several well known magazines, a ramp access badge from my home airport, a crew badge, both my CTO and pilot cert, and I carry a passport and DL with me. They stop messing with me right about the time I start pulling my CTO, or Crew badge. They're like, "Ok.. ok.. I get it." And they go away. Cops are generally the same. I've never been really run off. I've been told to stand back, or increase my distance, but never run off. You just need to feel out the environment. And lastly, I ALWAYS smile and stick my hand out and introduce myself before they even have a chance to speak when they drive up. I'm not doing anything wrong, and I shouldn't have to apologize for pursuing my passion and hobby, and I act accordingly.
