Today was windy and very bumpy for light single. Thanks to the military I grew thick skull hit canopy twice and no cracks :D

I'm currently sitting in the Marriott hotel just on the other side of the Hyatt. We were wondering what the big tower looking thing was last night.
 
Fencer, did you see the smoke plume on Long Island? Huge fire out here yesterday that started about 1500. Flew over the scorched earth and remnants today, but didn't have my camera (was supposed to be going for a lesson, but took a joy ride instead).

No, I didn't venture that way, went rivers instead. The fire I saw was by Fresh Kill on SI. Lots of smoke. It was so bumpy I checked if all my teeth were intact lol.

Found during an oil change. Seized slip-joint resulting in a complete severance. The only symptom was a light decel pop coming over the numbers.

Yeah, it was a bit rough today over land as well, bumped my head once or twice. The ride was smooth over the sound. They are still working on fighting the fire, but it is nothing like yesterday. The smoke plume yesterday looked like towering cumulus. Affected area is south of CCC VOR/DME and west of FOK Class D, if you are ever in the neighborhood.

Might zoom to Block this weekend will take a look.
 
There was a nice smoke plume south of EWR yesterday IIRC. It was also bumpy as hell yesterday too.
