DA40 CS Power Settings

I think every pilot should own a copy of the A&P engines manual, 20 bucks to never be confused about how that thing works again seems fair to me.

I have a couple of them and find them to be of poor quality. Better than nothing but far below college textbook standards.

I've also found the cruise performance charts to be very inadequate. They just don't have enough data there to get a good setup to run the plane for a good X/C. Sure, you can guess, but more data would be great

I have a good 100hrs in the DA40, mostly longer XC, and find the power settings in the POH to be very accurate. Did a Chicago to Wilmington, DE (579nm) at the 65% power setting, only a knot or two of wind at altitude and landed with 12 gallons in the tanks. I have always run it at full power to TOC, 2400 rpm, never had any worries with it.

They are good charts, but I feel they are really kind of sparse. Maybe if they expanded them a little bit, it would be easier. However, after getting 20 or so hours in the plane, I could tell you what I'm going to burn and how fast I'm going to run. 10.5 hr @ 142 KTAS, seems to be what the plane I fly the most runs at real well.
