Curious about Maldives

I read things like this here and there...

Guys,
Stop dreaming about a job there.
I had over 25 students from the Maldives (still have three). Only 2 got hired. There is a long wait list and pilots are unemployed. They will only hire loals, unless you have an ATP and 3000TT. In the Maldives, you have to know someone who knows someone that knows someone. For those of you with 250TT just get your CFI ratings and fly. Good luck!

.... but then I read things like this on a lot of the international forums....

My friend got hired there with 400TT and ASES, no AMES but most of his time was in ME land. He is Indian with Australian/FAA CPL....

outside the US there is not much meritocracy, for most flying jobs you need to know somebody.

I don't know what impression to walk away with on this job and others like it. Do I need to network my way in or do I need the hours? I tend to lean towards the networking because I've read so many times that international flying is all about who ya know. So I'm still left scratching my head haha. In the meantime I'll keep working on getting my CFI done and finding some students.

Borek who provided the lease, crews, m/x to MAT will no longer or will soon no longer be with MAT, they have sold some of the twin otters to MAT and the balance will be coming back to Canada and Borek will no longer be providing a/c, crews or m/x to MAT from my understanding, from what I hear a few experienced Captains have chosen to leave Borek and remain with the new MAT.

Well I wouldn't say impossible! My buddies who were hired over there didn't get hired through the Canadian company. They were recommended through their former students. They absolutely love it over there! My former students (Maldivians) who work over there say that their not hiring right now though.

Where are these Maldivians learning to fly?

I think I need to recruit some of these students.... We'll get them up to WMU and teach them about flying in ice and clouds. They surely will need that experience to take back home haha.

Ami,

What do you know about Horizon Flight Academy? Are they hiring at the moment? Do they have some sort of training agreement with the Maldivian government or Maldivian Air Taxi?

I dunno to what extent I wanna chase after getting a job here but I do need a job as a flight instructor regardless.

Thanks!

ive been looking at maldives since I came out here to louisiana. Once my contract is up I should have about 600 hours of float time, going in and out of ditches and the gulf. Kinda my dream job right now.
