Crossing Over!

Hey guys! I'm sure this has already been posted at some point or another, but I want to know about crossing over to the ATC side from the flying side! The airlines are murdering me!!! Unfortunately, I'm already 28 and must not have too much time to get in to ATC. Anyone know a good way to transfer? Anyone in at the Kansas City Center or Kansas City Towers? Drop me a line, and if it will really help me out, email me at gvinflight@yahoo.com This would be a great help! Thanks!

doubt its gonna happen. sorry. FAA has slowed down hiring consderably. A good start would be to read the sticky topics in the ATC forum here

Unfortunately, given the current hiring circumstances, you're not going to make it in before you hit the age cutoff of 31. The only way in these days for someone with no ATC background is either joining the military or doing a CTI program at a college. The former would require a commitment that'll take you way past 31, and while there's a possibility of you getting CTI done in a year or two, the application process following graduation would take too long for you to make it in.

Sorry.

Damn......what a bunch of Buzz Killington's.

No wonder this forum section is dead.

At least it makes it easy for me to patrol though.

:D

It is just the way things are right now. At ZME we were getting new trainees from the academy about every 5-6 weeks or so, now the last people to come here got here in mid-May. We have two people coming here the remainder of the calendar year, one in about a month, and another in mid-November. It has just slowed down that much in OKC.

At the facility level, the training department is still running like gangbusters trying to get everyone run through stage 3 and 4 classes. This is just my opinion, but I don't think they're going to crank hiring back up until they can cut down the wait time for training in the field. We've had some people have to wait a year on the A side for a D class. Not only is it extremely boring from the trainee's standpoint, it costs the FAA a ton of money to have someone sitting around like that who can't really do anything.

Quick, somebody flame Mike so he has something to do.

The other day I was passing through the terminal and a pilot said to me, "Hey, what's up?" I grabbed his elbow and pulled it around behind his head and said, "Okay, NOW who's asking the questions?"

Oh yeah THAT'S a bad move! :)

In college, Mike was always the happy go lucky guy who wouldn't pass up an opportunity to beat the hell out of someone just to cut the boredom! :)

If anyone has any opportunities for Samurai Sam, I will vouch for him. He was my first officer on one of my last trips at the airline, and possibly one of the hardest with delays, mechanicals, flow, irate passengers and tough approaches. Matter of fact the lowest approach I ever had was with him, and he performed for this four day trip spectacularly. He also was a pleasure to be around to the point where I tried to get him for the rest of my trips at the airline. I would fly again with him any time any where, and if my family was in the back of his airplane and the captain were somehow incapacitated, I would be confident in their safe return.

He would do best in a corporate environment due to his poise under pressure and his attention to detail in his duties and his appearance.

OK enough enough, I think I'm going to go puke a little.

I thought they did psych profiles on your flyin' types. They not do that anymore? At least there's some crazy on one side of the mic.

He used to drop bombs and blow shizzle up with the gatling gun. You like them a little pissed off! :)

Me, I'd be terrible doing that unless I was able to stay angry.

"if we all just held hands and sang koombayah..."

"Taylor! Fire your weapon..."

I'm not even liberal or leftist, just a low "drama" tolerance! :)

I'd rather drink beer and stare at the horizon than beat my first on a podium and scream.

I'd rather drink JD and blow up the frakin' podium!!!

(OK not really, but I thought it was funny)

Dude, we should totally share a fifth and turn over some cars one of these days. When are you free?

I'll bring the pitch forks and the torches!

And if SeanD shows up, the 24 ounce cans!
