CRJ off the runway at PVD

Looks like there's an Air Wisconsin jet off the end of PVD's runway.

"Ship 470 was the jet and the mains are sheered off with significant damage to the wings and trailing edges are pretty destroyed as the rumor goes around the crew room here."

Quote's from a PSA pilot. Doesn't sound good.

It's winter time. This stuff happens in the winter. Sounds like the crew and passengers are ok, which is the important thing. I know one of our fellow JCers spent a good part of his day sitting in PVD waiting to get out and he said it was pretty bad most of the morning.

Here I thought someone was necroposting when I saw the subject!

Yikes. A good friend of mine is a Air Wisconsin CRJ captain out of PHL. I hope it was not him!

One of the first reporters (the guy) I appreciate. He didn't try to sensationalize the "incident."

Glad to hear no injuries.

awful weather up there... it was going to happen sooner or later

edit: just looked at metar, as of now, its 10sm vis, 1500 broken clouds.. so not as bad as KBOS which is 1/4 vis, freezing rain, etc

HOLY FREAKING CRAP!

I was in PVD this morning. We got there at 9:50 AM and I refused to move the airplane with the conditions on the ramp and runway (not to mention there were four mainline 737s waiting to be deiced and the runways were closed). The airport ops guys took us around and I made a comment...

"rather have the airport closed than have a plane runoff the runway."

His response was "...yeah having a plane skid isn't good for business."

Anyway around 1400ish, the taxiways and runways were clear and I felt comfortable enough to take responsibility and depart.

Daaannng, Talk about foreshadowing.

Looks from the video and the pictures like that thing is sitting on it's belly! Ouch! Glad everyone is ok...

I was in PVD Friday night with the crack of dawn early flight on saturday.

There was compacted snow on some the taxiways- but at the time it wasnt too bad.
However the ramp crew were speaking of the worse to come later, and sure enough it did.

And because of weather i was in BOS yesterday early, and almost the whole day today. Snow started late in the evening yesterday.
