Crew Scheduling Phone Call I Wish I'd Recorded....

So, bit of a background.

As we know, it's 2 days until December. I have not "self-notified" on my schedule. For laymen (well, if ya'll are reading), this is the act of logging onto crewtrac and clicking "ok" to all the "changes" to my schedule. The changes consist of going from the default reserve times to AM or PM reserve, and awarding me airport appreciation sits of 9 hours.

So, I don't usually like "self-notifying" until I really need to, ie, the start of the month.

I got a phone call from scheduling today telling me that she needed to notify me of my schedule Monday and Tuesday.... I said, oh yeah, I need to notify for the month and I'll take care of it Monday or Tuesday. She tells me that she's required to notify for me now since she called me about it, and besides, that way I won't get a missed trip for those days. I am wondering, how on earth can I possibly get a missed trip for a day that I'm required to sit AT home, waiting for my phone to ring, and there is no requirement to log in and check my schedule during this time....

:dunno:

Filed under, wish I had a recording.:insane:

9 hour airport reserve? Ugh...

That's normal.... a part of our contract.

even our "stellar" TA had this tidbit:

Unless assigned to a flight, a pilot on ready reserve duty shall not
exceed eight (8) consecutive hours. (m)
And pay for this ready reserve? Only if you were assigned to it after integration. (1 hour above guarantee for this 8 hour shift).

Guess I'm confused. Why did you pick up the phone today? If you are on reserve today and scheduling called, of course they are going to notify you for every change on your schedule. I guess I'm just unsure of what you thought you should have recorded.

Eh, our Ready Reserve slots are 10 hours. Limited to no more than 3 days in a row but no limit per month. Paid at perdiem only unless you fly and end up breaking guarantee for the month.

Wow, and I thought airport reserve at Comair sucked.

6 hour sists. No more than 2 in a row. Max 6 a month.
4:20 Pay. Used to get Per Diem as well, but not anymore.

At Mesa it used to be max 12 hours of ready reserve a day, unlimited amount of days per month (so if you were the most junior pilot it was everyday) with 6 hours of pay.

There was a LOA that changed the max to 10hrs with 5 hrs of pay. But, recently (at least the last I was there) crew stalking had started only assigning 6 hour blocks, that way they could assign you RR every day of the month and you still wouldn't break guarantee. It was assigned in reverse seniority order and since historically Mesa always had movement it wasn't seen as a priority, but it really sucked being the most junior person in your domicile for months and months.

I picked up my phone because I'm on reserve. They notified me of my schedule. Why? I've got no idea, because NOTHING changed.

Holy smoke that stinks. I'll quit complaining about our 4 hour sits. We are limited to 6 times per month with no airport reserve allowed on your last day of a string.

Got you all "beat" as it was.

TSA has 10 hour airport appreciation sits...paid for 5. No limit per week or month. In October I think I had 100+ hours of credit and a measly 8 hours flown with one overnight. The rest was airport appreciation.

I rarely self-notify. Not in the contract, so not required to, however they can tell if you log on. Even if you don't do anything, they can tell that you logged on, saw you had notifications, and didn't notify. I think they've burned a guy or two on this when they didn't show up for a pairing that they knew was on there.

When I was at Mesa, I never logged into Crew Trac... EVER while I was reserve pilot. And my phone was "at home". They tried to yell at me once for not answering 15 minutes after a flight when I had a reserve period -- sorry, my phone is "at home" and it takes me longer than 15 minutes to get back home. :)

I once flew with a captain in a PHX Dash flight who when we taxied in knew there was a crew tracker waiting for him at the gate, had me greet the passengers and close the cockpit door while he changed into civilian clothes and got off the plane incognito as "the last passenger" while asking me to put his flight kit in the crew room for him. I was impressed.

I always got the 10 hour shift in Denver. It was nice because it allowed me to break guarantee for a while till they furloughed me. I sat ready reserve from my crashpad so it was no different than regular reserve.

I'm confused as to how that's bad?

I would take that over our airport reserve.

As it currently stands, with 20 reserve days per month, you could sit, and not get used, for 180 hours at the airport. Monthly pay? 75 hours.

TA book? No limit to the month, but only paid if escalated DURING the month.

Oh it's totally not bad. I don't need the time and I've got so much stuff done at home it's unreal. Lots of hometime = good.

What you guys have sounds pretty crazy though :(
