Any of you guys see this on the news?

A dramatic helicopter crash has been caught on camera during a naval exercise in Russia.
The Mi-14 was involved in joint rescue exercises with Japan when it went down off the Russian island of Sakhalin, killing one of the 13 people on board.
It was meant to be a test, simulating an emergency response to an oil spill and aid to stricken ships.
One of the helicopter's rotor blades hit the water during the drill and it crashed into the sea.
The pilot then tried to lift it into the air, but the rotor blades propelled the aircraft into the sea nose first, causing it to capsize and explode.
All 13 people aboard were rescued from the aircraft, but three were injured. One of them, a pilot, died on the way to hospital.

cya, I see what I can do.

I've never seen an aircraft that also made a good submarine, but pilots are always wanting to try. May the one who died rest in peace. :(

He was doing hover autos to the surface of the water. Insane. I wonder how much water it would take to pull the nose that low?

Autos to the water are not uncommon in the Gulf Of Mexico. Airlog pilots train for it in a 206 with inflatable floats. They use a lake southeast of Lafayette.

I am sure I will be doing a lot of water manuvers. But living here right now the cardinal rule is stay off the lake. Except on the RNAV 17 to Tooele then you hold over the Salt Lake.

Yep!, I don't like the thought of being single-eng over water. I did pass dunker training and I would probably survive a water crash; unless knocked unconscious. Still, it sort of gives me this funny feeling in my stomach.

Check you messages, I sent you a PM. (conspiracy against everyone) J/J

You know... I think its poor form to have a sudafed commercial play on the CBS video before showing a video where a person dies... that's really messed up.

They must've read your comments on here, since it's a different commercial (at least for me) before it plays, which is 100x worse.

I had an "enjoy boating" commercial come up before the vid. It was seriously, about buying and enjoying a boat, where everybody waves to each other.

RIP to the PIC. I hope everybody else recovers fully.
