Is it normal for a person to have nightmares about crashing an aircraft, or seeing an aircraft crashing? It is an embarassing post but it has really been bothering me lately. Just last night, I dreamed that I went aircraft spotting and just for the small time that I was there, 3 cessnas crashed into the ocean. Then I remember telling myself to be an ATC instead of a pilot.lol

So are these dreams just part of what I might see online or on TV, or can they actually be saying something? Does anyone ever have dreams like these?

Well Brian, typically whenever I have Aviation dreams they consist of me being a Captain crossing the Atlantic or some great fantasy. I've never had a nightmare about flying, but I wouldn't let it "get you down" or make you change your mind!

Now, Brian, just lay back on the couch.

So, Brian, how do you feel about your mother?

Just funning ya!

Seriously, anyone who tells you they know what your dreams mean is full of poop. Nobody knows. Dream interpretation? Why not just get the tarot cards out?

SInce you don't work in aviation I think you may be thinking about airplanes too much because you tend to dream about what you think about and you have nightmares about what you worry about. But I'm with you I had a horrible nightmare about a week ago. Some kid had won the opportunity to fly next to the blue angels in air for a photo. So he was my student and we had flown once then everything was kind of a blur but soon I found myself watching him flying as the blue angles would swoosh behind him then when it was all over and it was time to land I shockingly realized I forgot to give this guy more than one flying lesson but under the rush had signed his logbook so this event could occur. So on short final in front of everyone he starts getting slow and starts pitching up about 200agl as he gets slower he pitches up more before spinning it into a tree. The tree breaks his fall and he lives but then the airplane owner is at my house wanting me to pay for everything in cash as I am already broke then the lawyers start chasing me. Then more lawyers, litigators, and scum sucking attorneys start sueing the crap out of me. Pretty intense.

I seriously thought for a while before making this post. It is interesting to see some of you with similar experiences though. It was just messed up to be there looking at airplanes and see so many crashes. Comments appreciated. Thanks!

I once had a horrible dream that people were stealing airliners by the dozen, and crashing them into the ground...

Freaked me the &^#) out! I woke up terrified!

What does it mean? Nothing at all.

I didn't know that could scare a Marine.

Hi Brian
This reminded me of a friend who is a State Trooper back home, who when he was first on the force kept having a bad dream about his gun falling apart at the worst possible moment. What was happening was he didn't have the confidence in his equipment or his abilities, so he hit the ranges hard and after a while gained the confidence and his dreams went away. What you are experiencing is a lack of confidence that will go away with proper training and experience.

Jim

Yeah, I don't even have any flight hours yet so I need to start that up. Thanks!

I have nightmares of my something happening to my students and that freaks me the #&^* out! Other than something happening to my student, just like the rest of us I just can't afford it!!!

Brian,
Don't worry about it. I think if you can take lessons and see how safe it is, and see the training that you receive.

I know lessons are safe, and I'm not afraid of flying. All these aircraft I saw that crashed in the water, were because of spins. I think I'll have a hard time with those.
