Just thought I'd post a couple pictures I took while on the job this week. Most are from Prince of Wales island where we are prepping a HUGE helicopter logging unit to be logged via Skycranes and Chinooks. Basically we get dropped off via Hughes 500 up in the alpine and, "cruise" the units, picking out the biggest and most profitable trees to be logged, where we then mark and record them. This week was my first week riding in a Hughes 500 let alone a helicopter so it was preeetty awesome to say the least and they let me ride in the right seat. Our pilot was an old DEA pilot from Arizona, maybe somebody on here knows him. I work for the Forest Service by the way.

Wasn't there a show about this awhile back? The show focused more on the tree climbers. The guys would zipline from marked tree to marked tree and cut off all the limbs. They were always super pressed for time, as the helicopter cost an insane amount of money to lease their services. Obviously, it was especially expensive if the chopper was sitting and waiting because the trees weren't ready to be plucked.
