Couple kicked off American Airlines

While I do agree that the morals here in the US tend to lean more towards the puritanical side, I happen to agree with AA's decision here. Here's some more food for thought. It's summer travel season, so I can guarantee you that a lot of the pax on that flight had small children. Think they want their kids exposed to that yet? Why force the issue on them when they're not ready, especially on vacation. There comes a time when you have to pick your battles between free speech and honoring other people's sense of decency. An airline flight in the middle of summer on is probably not the best place for this. If the guy was at Disney World, he would have gotten the exact same option, turn the shirt inside out or leave. They even gave him the option of turning it inside out, and he refused. Based on experience with passengers being removed from flights for various reasons (and "I'm suing Southwest" is no longer a valid threat for me. I've heard it WAY too many times), I think they're is probably more to this than what's being reported.

Here we go with "It's Clinton's fault!" /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif I think that little episode darn near cost him his political career, and it DID cost him the respect of a lot of people in the nation......

Once on a flight from California to Okinawa...

Never mind, this isn't the place... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Heh, the ACLU reference pretty much voided the article's credibility in my mind. I mean, I'm pretty far left, but those guys are just idiots.

What Riddlepilot said. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Not EVERYTHING is a violation of someone's right to free speech.

On the one hand: It was a boob. Big whoop.

But on the other hand: What exactly is "Speech" about it? What point was the shirt trying to make?

Sounds to me like it was just an excuse to show (a pic of) some nudity. Maybe the guy gets off on that stuff. Either way, there's a place for that and it's not in a tube with a captive audience.

That's really the key. When you are just trying to be cute and you are told you need to change the shirt or turn it inside out, you do it. When you are trying to be an a**h##e and make trouble, you don't. There are no deeper principles here.

To me this reads like it's more than just a breast:
[ QUOTE ]
American spokesman Tim Wagner said Sunday that crew members acted properly.

"The description I heard was a picture of a graphic of a naked man and woman performing a sexual act," he said. "We as an airline are in the service business, and we have the same latitude as a restaurant that says proper attire is required."

Your mileage may vary.

Listen, what kind of guy wouldn't want to see a boob. Well, I guess a gay guy, but forget about that. It doesn't bother me if a kid happens to see a boob once or twice as a kid. But if you're wearing a vulgur shirt that has a man & woman on it performing a sexual act, then it's a diff. story. People have the right to go out in public w/o having to see such mess.

I can't believe we are arguing about this /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif, a guy refused to take off a pornographic T-Shirt so they kicked him off the plane. He deserves it! If I refuse to turn off my cell phone when told to, I deserve to get kicked off the plane to! AA reserves the right to refuse service to ANYONE!

On a side note, I wonder what his wife thought?

I saw a passenger deplane with a black t-shirt, with big white lettering that read "I F***ED YOUR WIFE" and the flight attendants decided to raise hell to the captain AFTER the passenger deplaned.

Geez, speak up girls!

[/ QUOTE ]

Better be politically correct Doug, not all flight attendants are female these days....though I wouldn't complain if things went back to how they used to be. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Oh I know!

Considering that my ATL-DCA-ATL turn was flown with three burly black men as FA's, I'm fully aware that every FA isn't a Molly! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Chris,

We really don't know if it was pornographic now, do we? But then again, I find those "tuxedo" t-shirts very insulting!

Doh!
