counting Flight Time hours

i am counting my hours in my logbook and having a rough time figuring this out.

8/27/2008--1.5TT(check-ride)

NO FLIGHT TIME BETWEEN DATES

8/7/2010------ .8TT-------.8trning rec'd-------0.0pic (no PIC b/c not current, was told by CFI)

NO FLIGHT TIME BETWEEN DATES

10/21/2011----- 0.5TT-------0.5trning rec'd--------0.5pic------NIGHT FLIGHT-3 t/o, landings fullstop)PIC?
11/02/2011------5.1TT-------0.0trning rec'd--------5.1pic-----5.1x-country------(can i log PIC?)
12/18/2011------2.0TT-------2.0trning rec'd--------2.0pic----------Pattern work/maneuvers(can i log PIC?)

BFR--completed
1/08/2012----------1.1TT---------1.1trning rec'd--------0.0pic----------(can i log PIC?)

OKAY...this is how the hours are logged in my logbook currently.
my question is, can any of these hours count as legal hours in the logbook between the checkride and the BFR dates?. Although, i did my 3 takeoff and landings at night before the BFR, my understanding is that i am NOT night current, or am I?

i did not have to do a ground portion of the BFR b/c i renewed my certificate in 8/2010.

I'm not even sure what you are asking.

  1. Do you have at least a private pilot certificate?
  2. Is it for the category & class of the airplane you did the flights in?
  3. Were you the sole manipulator of the controls on those flights?
If the answer to all three is "yes" you can log those flights as PIC. Nothing else in what you are asking (BFRs, night currency) is even relevant.

btw, assuming the "yes" to those three questions, the CFI who told you you could not log the 8/7/10 flight is very wrong on multiple levels.

Well..kk. ...the 3 questions are all YES..I want to know if those can be logged in my logbook towards my TT time overall. The reason I ask is that I was told that if your are not current, meaning no flight review within 24 calender months, I cannot log flight time unless your are receiving flight training from an CFI. The main concern was the xcountry flights I did with a safety pilot in which I was the sole manipulator of the controls, in which I was told that those hours are illegal because I was not current

You were told wrong. The only thing you can't do when you're not BFR current is act as the pilot in command of a flight (which has nothing to do with logging PIC time).

If the answer to all three of those questions was yes, those may be logged in my logbook towards my TT time overall.

(I know I'm going to be sorry for asking this) - was your safety pilot acting as PIC on the flight?

If he was, you're all set. If he wasn't, then you have a bigger problem (an illegal flight) than not understanding how to log flight time (for which you can be excused since your CFI doesn't either). Try my FAQ and see if it helps: http://www.midlifeflight.com/faq/faq.php?s=1#2

drunkenbeagle - if you look back at the post, b7474ever said the other pilot was the safety pilot, not b7474ever. Besides, are you sure he's talking about a 91.109 safety pilot?

Got a chance to read and understand the FARs in lament english..thank you midlifeflyer. Two different thing when acting and logging PIC. All I'm gona say is that the safety pilot was acting PIC.

Yes..you are correct. Its a slow process as I have a another job. When I first got the cert, had no intentions on teaching but rather use as a credential when applying for flying jobs. After taking some time off and finishing school. I have a different outlook. I just wish I had stayed more active. Also. I know of other cfi around the area and getting help from them as swell.
