Cortosteroids or other Options

I've been taking OTC Allegra for my allergies for some time now and it just doesn't seem to be helping much. I have year round allergic rhinitis which is always worse when I wake up (sneezing, bad runny nose). I'm thinking about seeing a specialist and I was curious if there were any approved Rx options to treat this. Do you have any recommendations for treatment that won't effect my medical? I read that Cortosteroids are an option but that you can't continue taking it permanently. Thank you.

I've been taking corticosteroids for about eight years now. No problem with my medical. You're just limited in the kinds you can take. Dymista works the best for me, but the FAA won't allow it, so I have to use Flonase when I'm flying.

Honestly, you should see an ENT to see what he thinks. I did last year after many years of constant sinus infections and even ear drum ruptures. He did a CT scan, recommended sinus surgery, and it was the best decision I've ever made. I breathe better, I sleep better, I don't get sinus infections, and my quality of life is just generally better. I still have to take the allergy meds to prevent post-nasal drip and the like, but the congestion is a thing of the past.
