Coolest $100 Hamburger EVER! (LAX)

So I'm in LAX doin' some business and Tld and I step out for a bite.

At the recommendation of a coworker, she steers us to a place near LAX called 'Proud Bird'.

"It's got airplanes outside," they say.

No kidding.

I had the Kobe Beef hamburger. VERY nice.

So after we ate, we wandered the halls. They have several full-sized models of airplanes.. and a few vintage show pieces that are likely not models at all, like the DC-3.

The walls are covered in row after row of vintage aviation photography.

Many of the photos and cards date back many decades. World War II and earlier. At one point, our waiter noticed us and pulled us aside to point out a particular photo. Apparently the owner was a WWII fighter pilot.

Too cool!

Dig it:

Me in front of the P-38 model...

... in front of the model of my favorite warbird, the P-47.

... Gotta love the Jug.

Diners at 'Proud Bird' are treated to an amazing view of the final approach to LAX when traffic is landing west. Here's Widget 757. Good times.

Doug Taylor sighting? This far west? Naaaaaaaaah... :)

Tld in the foreground, and a Western DC-3 in the background.

I think the DC-3 might be real. Good times.

Thanks for the pics and info! I'm back out there the end of this month and will have to check it out. Looks like a really neat and interesting place.

It's drowning in history and excellent service.

Caution: the menu is a little pricey.

... but actually worth it.

It'd make a rockin' M&G site... you can sit out on the patio and watch the planes land.

I've never eaten there but I've driven past it a few times. It looks pretty coo. I'm itching to take an airplane dork trip out to LAX.

Are you living in LA?

If it's with an aircraft with G1000, Matt, you know I'm all over it. Anything less would be unsafe.

It'd be worth it just for the chow. The chow really was top notch.

It's serious old school. They have a ballroom.

I thought about flying to KTUS this weekend but the Cirrus was unavailable. I could have used the 152 but I won't fly it unless I'm within gliding range of KSDL.

You misses the PHX M&G the other night. Doug and I were joking around about people who think the need a G1000 equipped Cirrus to putt down to Tucson VFR on a Saturday.

Try the In n' Out on Lincoln/Sepuleveda on the way out. 30 sec. from the airport and you can watch the planes land (from short final) and enjoy a quality burger at the same time. No airplane garden, though... just a lot of people that work at the airport, tourists, college students from LMU, and locals like me. (at least when I lived in the neighborhood)

Enjoy LA, it's a lot of fun.

I love LA! Go to Hermosa Beach and Pier Ave it is a great time. The Bird is a good location for dinner and watching airplanes. Ask UAL how they like it for LEC meetings. I kid I kid.

Word. Could you imagine flying at night in a 152? I mean I'm not instrument rated, but I need a Cat-II capable aircraft.

THe Southernjets LAX council meets there too!

Perhaps your buddies LM and KR can meet ya there sometime! :)
