4 out of 4 cars did not start, a buddys car that has remote start every 2 hours and has a warm car came to help, after jumping the cars, only 2 out of 4 start and the rest sit. Fuel doesn't vaporize, starters are frozen, and clutch is frozen on one.. :) Now why am I in Grand Forks?

If my car needs to be started (remotely!) every 2 hours... its officially too damn cold for me. Why do any of you decide to go to UND?! :)

Off topic - any of you flight guys up there know John Cannole (sp?)? I went to high school with him.

This is still warm compared to Jan 28th, 2004 when it got to -44 before windchill. Today we had -40 windchills, but the actual temperature was around -20.

My car absolutely did not want to start today. I cranked through the entire car battery and almost an entire 1500amp jump pack! It was cranking alright, but was acting like it had vapor lock or something. It was trying to start, but just wouldnt stay running. This is kinda odd because last year it started no problem at all when it was -36.

I'm curious as to what you do when your car does not start...do you just say "screw it" and leave the car there and decide not go somewhere until it warms up?

Also - how much do block heaters typically run?

I had a block heater put on for something like $150.

...because UND failed to provide the truth in their marketing materials about the WEATHER... and all other things Grand Forks lacks in a real city.

I dunno why but my Honda always starts fine when it's that cold.... but boy you can just feel that SLUDGE of oil muck and metal to metal contact when it starts that cold. Cold starts are so hard on the engine.

I believe this is because fuel does not easily vaporize past certain cold temprature, all of the cars I had had issues with this, just won't fire up, acts flooded.

Man, try revving if you want to kill your engine.. hehe it runs so rough like a tractor, you hear the oil pump whine, I feel sad for the engine, I guess it is best having a warm garage, or have a remote start like Taka's truck which turns the car on every 2 hours, keeping it warm. He says he gets 4 mpg, in winter with that set up, so perhaps a block heater is more feasible

Oh man, you guys should hear my powersteering pump on cold starts. That poor thing is gona explode one of these days. Thats ok though, REAL men dont have powersteering. :D

I have a friend in West dorm and he said it's not possible to have a block heater due to the lack of power outlets? I'm just qurious since I'll be heading up in the fall with a Jeep Cherokee.

Hehe good philosophy, even though I am a fan of power steering, talking about that, I love the steering on BMWs and the fact that I can tighten my steering wheel so easily on my car from the servo. Ahh good BMWs Right Jace?

the earth will quit running before the jeep quits running.

i have one as well, the motor is a tank. now if only i could get the damn ignition wired back up :-(
