Cool California Airports

Delano, really? Are we thinking of the same Delano? Is there something I missed there? :dunno:
If you are familiar with all the above airports then you would know that I was being sarcastic. I was waiting for someone to comment on this. :laff:

Ahh, gotcha. Delano is the only one I am familiar with and it definitely isn't anything special. :bandit:

There are some really good stops out there that no one comments on so when you started saying airports I've always avoided I too listen. I found Shoshone one day when I was bored. What a nice little stop and no one seemed to know about it.

Just got back from Ukiah KUKI. Took the Marchetti up there for a fly-in group meet. The Bluebird Cafe' is right across the street and has great food. It was gorgeous scenery too.

My first solo cross country destination from O69 as a student pilot.

I spent some time on the ground in that area taking a college field geology class. Shoshone's runway has a pretty good slope to it from the ground! I'd love to fly in there (as well as Stovepipe Wells in Death Valley up north, where we camped). :)

That was an interesting little airport. It's amazing how well kept up the runways are for being out in the middle of nowhere. It's equally amazing how much of a crap shack the "fbo" is. Would I stop there again for fuel.....probably not.

I love Needles. I've stopped their twice. Yeah, it's in the middle of nowhere, but there's absolutely no bs. Get your fuel and be on your way. It's pretty much a guarantee that you're the only living thing in a 5 mile radius, so there's no waiting around. :)

FYI, Auburn Airport has an AWESOME breakfast place called Wings Grill. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Very good applewood smoked bacon! And the pancakes are made from scratch.

as long as the weather is nice, fly up the owens valley for some really good thai food in KBIH (Bishop) Great sights on the way up

Sorry to have misled anyone. I originally expected someone to call me out right away. BTW, Buttonwillows is by far the worst public-use airport in California but we use it for training at my work so that is how I know of it.

I judged a two day AKC event in Buttonwillow (yes Buttonwillow) a few years ago. Couldn't see leaving my airplane on their ramp overnight so I spent 4 hours each way driving.
