I recently got an email from a prospective student who is a current military pilot, and was wondering what would be required to get their civilian ratings (I don't know specifically which ratings they have or want to get) from the FAA.
I know the FAA has a process that allows conversion of military certificates to FAA tickets without having to go through all of the training in part 61 from scratch, but looking through the FAR/AIM online, as well as this site, the FAA website, and a few google searches hasn't turned up any specifics about how that process works, or even anything more specific than "it exists".
Do any of the other CFI's out there happen to know how that process works? It's kind of driving me nuts having a flying related question that I've got no idea how to answer, so I figured someone on here has run into this kind of thing before and would be able to help.
