Controllers working 2 freqs

Yeah, even at my tower when we are working everything combined, when I transmit I transmit on all control freqs.

Yea... "coupled" is something just a bit better... when I transmit it goes out on all... but the key is that when Airplane A transmits on 126.32, an airplane 500 miles to the south on 135.2 hears him like he's 5 miles away.

That frequency coupling sounds like a really cool idea.

We only got it about a year ago, used to be a nightmare on midnights when you had 20+ foreign pilots operating on 5-6 different freq's, everyones stepping on each other...

Been there done that, throw in some thunderstorms and the fact that everyone is late and it is really hard not to lose patience on the guy who wants to discuss his options on going around the cloud that is 10 airplanes and 70 miles in front of him.

Frequency coupling might be the best thing since sliced bread, but I am guessing the FAA with find some way to screw it up.

Got to love those pilots, and that is such a low view of our employer. Correction, true view of our employer.

sounds like they had the HAARP, NOBBI, and NYACK position all combined up.. when busy this becomes a beast.. there are some controllers who will put the main frequency in their ear and the others in the loudspeaker. and if you are busy sometimes the loudspeaker gets turned down.
