Contractor vs. Employee

Anyone here know of =anyone= who has a cronract like that as an independent CFI?

Doesn't have to be Texas.

That is essentailly my contract. Granted this is not for CFI work, it is for flying skydivers. Still, part 91, small scale.


I am guarenteed a set amount of pay per day, and guranteed 5 paid days per week. Thus, you could say I am guranteed X ammount every week.

Absolutely correct. That's why I asked.

This may be the most misunderstood part of the whole thing about creating a business entity.

Nope. Accident liability and taxes aside, there are intangibles to having a company. For some, it's simply a matter of seeming bigger than you are. Not a big deal to me, but the number of folks who think I run a flight school just because of the name is amazing

In my case, I came up with Midlife Flight, not only because it applies to me, but because I though it had some marketing appeal for my target students.

At a gathering, handing someone who says "Oh you fly? I've always wanted to do that" a business card that says "Midlife Flight ...because you always wanted to." tends to touch a nerve.

In addition, I've though about the idea of "licensing" the name to other CFIs liked the gimmick and wanted to join the "company." Having an LLC would help with some of the issues associated with that. (Just delusions of grandeur, but you never know...)

On top of that, the cost to me between registering Midlife Flight as a trade name and creating Midlife Flight LLC was pretty insignificant.

fair enough. that's about the same reasons i came up with when weighing options. i am presently working on getting my LLC stuff together.
