Continental\'s Airline Training Orientation Program, (Worth it?)

Has anyone taken the $435 class offered by Continental which gets you familiar to the B737 and an optional high altitude endorsement? Would the regionals, (or majors for that matter,) look at you any differently if you had that training logged in your logbook?

Re: Continental\'s Airline Training Orientation Program, (Worth it?)

$435 is cheap for a high altitude endorsement. I'd say go for it for that alone.

...Actually, the add in AOPA's Flight Training Magazine says that a high altitude endorsement comes at an aditional fee

Usually by the time you're at the point where you'd need a high altitude endorsement, you'll be able to get one for free.

Just my $.02.

Thanks, that's good advice EatSleepFly!

If you're doing it as a resume enhancement, I don't think it makes much difference. If you want a glimpse in to flying a 737 full-motion sim, then do it ... and if the high altitude endorsement is available at a reasonable price, then get it. But, this class isn't going to be the difference between getting and not getting any airline job or interview.

Just my $0.02 ...

I agree.

From what I've heard from airline captains (who have sat on interview boards) that I know, the believe that just about anybody can go out and "buy" an experience like that, and they don't really see it as an advantage. I don't think that it would hurt you, but I don't think it would help you a whole bunch either.

My opinion: save the money and buy some cheap multi-engine time; meet a pilot that flys for the airline and see if he'll offer you a sim ride, that way you get to network, and the ride is free. I've had numerous sim rides at United all for free, and I got to fly aircraft more advanced than the 37 - possibly one reason why theyre broke? Sorry United, thanks for the memories!

Ay, we're pilots not journalists!

Well, at least some of us.

I have a different point of view since I went to examine the program for our school, and get some familiarity for the 737 to help build a jet training course. I got 2 college credits for going which was also a big helper. Honestly though, it was a very interesting experience. I'd do it again. Everyone in the class was really cool, and we got along well. If you'd like to see what new hire training is like for a day, well this is kinda it. Everything is blasted at you with high intensity, and you'll even want to study after class in the CPT. It's up to you, if you'd like to spend that money on the course. Like I said, for me, I had the added benefits that I was getting college credits and I was using the information to start familiarizing our instructors in a newly acquired 737 sim at our school. Motivated me to pay attention!

CO training center sounds like a good place to do some networking.
