Continental Airlines anticipates hiring a significant number of pilots during the second half of 2005. We will begin accepting pilot applications after 4:00 p.m. Central time Monday, April 11, 2005. Additional details will be published here as they are available. There is no advantage to being the first to apply.

I've been waiting for the first major to start hiring. I didn't know Continental was so close to being able to hire again. I assume that all the other "Big Six" airlines still have pilots on furlough, although America West and Alaska are doing okay.
 
Well, CAL is the first "legacy" major airline to start hiring again.

UAL, US Air, Delta, NWA, AA still have pilots on furlough.

AA, for example, has almost over 3000 pilots on furlough. It will be quite a long time before they do any street hiring.

AWA is not hiring pilots from their website, since their pool is full. However, they will accept resumes at career fairs that they have occasionally.
 
Damn...wishin I had all my ratings done and a ton more hours!
Delta is my first choice an my favorite airline and CO is my close second.
I'd love to be hired and fly for CO hell any airline but to actually fly for your top two picks thats awesome.

Yeah, no problem. I've been keeping up with Continental by checking their website daily under the Pilot webpage.

With CAL hiring, I wouldn't be surprised to see hiring pick up again at some of the regionals. You know a lot of those captains are REALLY tired of working there. Apparently all of XJT's "flow through" captains are gone or on their way elsewhere. Maybe some of the senior FOs on here like Russ (who has disappeared off the face of the earth) and Kingairer might be able to follow in Peanuckle's wake and upgrade.
 
Well I hope they are actually hiring and this isn't a ploy for negotiation purposes. Maybe by the time I am ready to get a major job the majors will be hiring again.
 
Ya, Nuckle got lucky compared to the rest of the biz.

And on that note, I'd just like to say CONGRATS to my bro from da 10 Mile, since he just finished his IOE as a Captain. From the last time he instructed me, until his upgrade to Cap-i-tan, I think it's only been about 2.5 years. Damn good if you ask me.

CAL has been hiring in other departments as well. We had two dispatchers get on with them recently. They weren't even a week into the job when the news hit that their pay was being frozen for X amount of time... doh!
