Conscience Question(ing) + Update

My opinion differs from most on this thread...

You should think of yourself in this case. Networking with the turbine operator could lead to a big break. Unless there is a danger of you getting fired for doing it, I would have made the trip.

You'll soon see that aviation employers care about the bottom line and making money for themselves and the stockholders. They don't really care about you and will hold NO loyalty to you when the tables are turned. You are there to do a job and when the time comes you're not needed to do that job, you'll be out the door. I'm not cynical...just speaking from my experience.

If I had been you, I'd have taken the trip in a heartbeat.

Probably accurate. On the flip side, in my experience, I had a reputation of being very dependable and flying what was on my schedule (and other's) and doing grunt work if needed. As a result when guys who I had worked with and for moved up, they would think of me when job openings came up. Most of the better jobs I got were from people who had worked with me before. Something to think about, maybe.

But it is true. No business is a charity. If you're not needed they won't pay you out of the goodness of their heart.
