Connections=lower mins?

My former roommate at ERAU recently got a job flying King Airs in the northeast. He worked as a CFI in PA after graduation, flew around 80 hours multi time-building, over 1000 TT, and his boss connected him with the flight department he now works for...apparently another Riddle grad who worked there already liked what he saw after the interview. Now he's flying right seat in a KA350 for the same company, after flying smaller KA's there for just a few months...because "nobody else liked flying with that captain," so he took the job. I guess things like this still happen? Is this how most of you experienced corporate pilots found a job? Just curious, as I'll be looking for something similar in about a year. Thanks.

corporate aviation is probably 90% connections. I'm currently doing corporate contract work and have my fingers crossed and hoping all the people I meet wil lead me to something full time.

corp is very connection based but unlike the regionals, generally you get no hour min reduction just because of the connection due to insurance mins required for flight crews.

How is the coporate contract work going? Is their a lot of demand for a privately contracted pilot?

There can be, it depends on where you are located and what you are qualified to fly. Most require that you be typed and have been to training at FSI or Simuflight within the past 12 months. Picking up a few flights here and there definately helps add to the bottom line, but it would take a lot of work to do it full time.

There are a few pilots who contract full time. Most I've met also do some other work as well. I took this gig to allow to keep flying and give me enough time to finish my Air Force application. It popped up in my hometown right when my last contract was finishing. To let you know my connection it went something like this. An old roommate/cfi friend from about three years ago had a former CFI who new a guy who managed a part 91 aircraft that needed some part time pilots. Its kind of a long string.

Many depts. will want some sort of formal training in the last 12 months i.e. simuflight, flight safety, etc...

we've had several FlightSafety interns land corporate jobs with less than 400hrs, myself included if only on a part time basis.

Its all conections. I got to fly a G5 full motion simulator, only because I had conections. And that was my first flying expierence, I don't even have my Privates yet! So it pretty much is conections.
