I am 14 years old and a freshman in high school, but I do not know when to start flight training. I live in Greece, but I want to get a FAA license (I do have US citizenship). I visit the US on every summer and on Christmas because I have family members there, particularly Newtown, PA and Doylestown, PA. Is it to early, should I start training over the summer and keep flying every time I visit? I finish high school when I am 17, and my birthday is on November. My initial plan was start training when I am a Junior in High School(16 years old) on June 2012, and finish my PPL on Early September 2012, but I won't have my license because I need to be 17 to get it. After that how should I get the rest of my licenses? I want to go to college for a bachelor's degree. Initially I wanted to go to college and do the 90 day fast track at ATP over the summer holidays. How should I do my flight training? :dunno:

You're probably a little young to be worrying about this too much...but it's good that you're committed!

Of the plans you listed, I would recommend starting flying when you're 16. You can solo at 16, so that means you can complete all of your training before you turn 17...you'll just need to take the checkride. If you have the money and are really committed, you can do all of your instrument training as well. On your 17th birthday, you could, in theory, take both your instrument and private checkrides.

Of course, all of this requires money, and alot of it. Be sure that this is what you want to do before throwing down the tens of thousands of dollars that are required to ever make a penny flying an airplane. :)

Thank you! Yeah, but if I start on June 2012 (16 years old) and finish August 2012 I still won't be 17 so I can't get my checkride. Is it possible for me to come back to the flight school in December and finish? How frequently should I fly if I want to get my PPL in 3 months? If I go there every day can I add the Instrument Rating to my PPL?

Thanks!

I got my private in about 3 months time and I flew on average three times a week. It can definitely be done in that timeframe without too much stress. Adding an IR in three months time would be challenging, though. You would have to fly every day and really put your mind to it.

But like I said, don't worry too much about it now. Plans never seem to work out, anyways. ;)

This coming summer when you come to the USA you should take a discovery flight or something like that, it would be a whole lot of fun!
