Complex in a multi

This is probably a dumb question, but is there anything that says you can't just get your complex in a multi engine? I was thinking of doing the required complex time for the commercial in a twin and just taking the multi checkride after the single checkride.

You can, but you need a complex single to take the single checkride. 61.45

Your doing exactly what Im doing. As long as you dont have to take your commercial single in a complex, the multi complex will meet the requirement.

I think you have to take the MEL Comm ride 1st before you can take the SEL Comm in a non-complex single. Thats the way ATP does it, MEL first then the SEL in a 172 from what I have been told.
