Commuting KSWF area to KDTW

They have nonstop flights out of SWF to DTW. I've had to do it a few times and there is always a seat or two available. I'm pretty sure no one else commutes out of there since the gate agents have a hard time trying to figure out how to list a jumpseater.

I'd ask what metal but in the next year that could change 5 times.
Guess I'll tell her to throw her hat in the ring for the job. Then hopefully off to the Hudson Reform School for Wayward Boys and Girls.

Good to know after all these years that I am not a professional pilot. Never heard that dumb rule. I guess because I've flown (and been based), in parts of the world where a "K" is not used I got in the habit of using the "K".

I was going to tell you "welcome to DTW, that's where all the good people are." But after some snooping on the company site I see you're already there.
When IAD closed the mantra of everyone there was basically "anywhere but Atlanta." Entirely different crew lounge atmosphere. Not as good as IAD was, but way better than a bunch of angry rednecks yelling in the crew lounge.

Yeah, I like it there. Also an easier commute than the Atlanta nightmare, plus higher relative seniority. Bidding is... a little easier.

Before you make stupid remarks about someone you might want to actually learn a little about them. Only an ass would jump into a thread and make a remark like yours that has no relevance on the subject. No, I don't need your help. Run along and try to impress some other person with your new found knowledge about what "rule #1 of a pro pilot" is. After about 30 years of flying in numerous countries and continents,to include combat time; part 91, 135 and 121 flying; dropping the "k" is hardly rule #1 of being a pro pilot.

And honestly, its easier to avoid the "Lounge" all together in DTW. Commute in to A, duty-in on phone, go find quiet space on A, wait until time to go to work.
Staying out of that lounge is a wonderful experience.

That's what I pretty much do now. However, not having been to work since early May I will have to go in ahead of time and take care of 2-3 Jepp revisions. I will be so happy when the stupid Surfaces arrive.

Yeah, I feel you. Getting revisions won't keep you in the lounge long, unless of course you want to be in there. At times it can be a pretty depressing cesspool.

Eh...It's not my favorite place, but I don't actively avoid it either. I'd rather crash out on one of the recliners for an extended sit than wander around the terminal, though I do wish the quiet room was actually separate from the rest of the place.

There is a quiet room...down the hallway, through the bagroom...
The downside is it usually smells ridiculous and is hot as hell.

Yeah...that's the ready reserve room and I'm kind of a color inside the lines kind of guy. Ready reserve sucks enough, only thing that sucked more was looking forward to getting paid 4 hours to take a nap only to find out there were people who may or may not be also sitting ready napping in your chair.
